Cross Country at Leweston and Knighton
Leweston 15th of November
8 teams (5 Junior Yr 7/8 and 3 Minor Yr 5/6) took part in the Leweston Relays today and all of the girls performed to an exceptionally high standard. Well done to Ellie V who stepped in at the last minute and to Ella J and Annabel LJ who enjoyed their first running match this term.
The Junior A team were placed 2nd and Clemmie ran superbly and was awarded the 2nd fastest lap time in the age group. The Junior B team all came home with a medal, winning the B team competition. In the Minor event, the teams weren’t placed but they should be very satisfied with all that they achieved today.
Knighton 10th of November
Undaunted by the weather 26 Cross Country runners set off in two minibuses in the pouring rain on the wettest Saturday of the term. We arrived at Knighton in good time to walk the course and get a good idea of where the hills and downward slopes were, all useful preparation before running a new course. Miraculously it stopped raining and the skies brightened up. The Juniors ran a slightly shortened course and Sofia Espinosa deserves a mention as the first runner in for the U11 and U10 teams She was quickly followed by Polly R Plant, Elinor Lloyd Jones and Orlagh Poonia who came in 3rd, 4th and 5th respectively. Overall the U11team were 1st. The U10 team were 2nd with Lavender West and Rose Vedral placed 3rd and 5th as individuals. The U12 and U13 teams then had their turn. It was a wonderful sight to see so many Hanford vests appearing over the brow of the hill in a solid bunch to run down to the finish. Clemmie C Eyre won the U13 race, Ophelia James 2nd, Eliza Ellis 3rd and Anabel Townhill 4th and the results were equally impressive with India West 1st in the U12 age group, Bea Wilson 2nd, 3rd Lily Vedral and 4th Rose S Smith. An exhilarating afternoon enjoyed by all. Alas no photos as it was so wet when we arrived we left the iPad on the bus!
