History comes alive in Year 8 trip to Bristol
Lucky Year 8 (UVIth) girls enjoyed a fantastic history trip to Bristol last week. The purpose of the day was to deepen their understanding of one of their core history topics – the Abolition of the Slave Trade in 1807. The M-Shed, part of the Bristol Museums group, hosted us for a wonderful workshop during which the girls were able to examine a wide range of fascinating written and visual sources as well as the museum’s handling collection of artefacts on the slave trade.
There was time to walk around the dock area and visit an art installation on slavery in Queen’s Square. After that, the girls walked across Clifton Suspension Bridge to the Bridge Visitor Centre to find out about Victorian inventors and, in particular, Isambard Kingdom Brunel.
