Ken Baily Cross Country Bryanston
On Thursday 23rd January, the junior girls went to Bryanston School to complete in the 62nd Ken Baily Cross Country event. We walked the course in our wellies as a group and discussed tactics and strategies on each section of the course. The girls then prepared for the race, getting their spikes on and taping up. Rose, our cross country captain, led a warm up for the group of 17 runners which involved some pulse raising and dynamic stretching.
The girls were keen to get a good position on the start line and so threw off their layers and prepared for the start of the race. It was a relatively simple course which consisted of two laps of the rugby and cricket pitches covering a total distance of 2.8km. There was a high level of competition at the event with 159 runners from schools all over Dorset. It was a quick start with the girls all finding their positions in the pack.
We had some excellent results with our first team placing 4th overall out of 30 teams. Bea had a fantastic run, placing 7th overall. Rose came in second for Hanford and 19th overall. Polly placed 20th and Lavender 39th. The girls then warmed up with a hot chocolate and a doughnut followed by sausages and chips for match tea!
