U12 North Dorset tournament at Leweston

Mar 08

What a day for the U12s! From the outset we looked like a completely different team. This week we have been working on our change of direction to get free for the ball and WOW was it noticeable on the court!

We played against The Blandford School, Sherborne and Clayesmore in our group. It was an exciting first game against Blandford resulting in a 4-3 win. Adesola and Georgia were working nicely in the shooting circle together and Gema and Maria were perfecting their speed and strength on the centre passes.

Our second game was a well fought game against Clayesmore. We were leading in the first half, but Clayesmore pulled it back to secure a 4-3 win against us. Elsa and Polly shone in defence and really put pressure on the Clayesmore attackers.

Our third and final group game was against Sherborne. The play flowed nicely all the way down the court and Tara linked the play nicely in the mid court with sharp changes of direction. Florence was sinking the goals from half way out of the D to secure us a convincing win.

We were placed second in our group meaning we played Port Regis in our next game; the winners of the other group. Port Regis played a very good game which put us on the back foot slightly. We still managed to keep our calm and credit must go to the girls for playing their best until the end of the game. Orlagh came on at half time and made a positive contribution to allow us to score our one and only game of the match. The game ended in a loss

Luckily three teams were able to qualify so we got a second chance at going to the county finals. We played the other knocked out semi-finalists, Leweston. The Hanford girls were determined for a win. They went out fighting and played a beautiful, steady and organised game. It was a whole team performance and the cheer was deafening at the end of the game with a superb victory.

The U12 team now go on to represent North Dorset at the county finals at Bournemouth School for Girls next Wednesday. Good luck!
