CONGRATULATIONS to the U13 Netball team for qualifying for the National Prep Schools Netball tournament!!
On the wettest, windiest day, the Regional IAPS tournament went ahead at Port Regis.
The U13 team started with two tough matches, playing Farleigh first and managing a 4:4 draw, followed by Clifton which also finished with a draw at 2:2. They then won the next 4 matches in their section against Sandroyd, Yately Manor, Sherborne Prep and Castle Court. Finishing the group stage in 2nd position, Hanford went on to play Dumpton and really found their form winning by an impressive 11 goals to 2. This meant that they were in the semi final and were drawn against Farleigh. After a really positive first half 4-1 up, the girls tailed off in the second half, losing the game 5-6. Everything then rested on the 3rd/4th play off and Hanford were up against Clifton again. After the first half the team were down by 4 goals to 1 and the gem looked to be slipping away. In true Hanford style, the girls dug deep and with some excellent defence and mid-court play, the girls gradually drew the game back to 5:5 with seconds to play.
We gained possession quickly at the centre pass and moved the ball swiftly in to the goal circle and on the last second of play Phoebe scored as the hooter sounded. Finishing 3rd overall was crucial as the top 3 schools qualify for Nationals.
